The Jahn Hydrocele Tube is a relatively affordable method of protecting your piano from dryness. In the ideal situation, the humidity should be between 40% and 70%. In the Netherlands, it can regularly be much drier, which can cause damage to your instrument. This hydrocele tube can be easily mounted on the inside of the piano and protects it from dry air.
The hydrocele tube is easy to fill by immersing it in water for 10 minutes, e.g. in a bath. Should you not have a bath, it is possible to fill the hydrocele using an optional filling bag. You can then dry the outside and replace the tube in the metal brackets. In times when the heating is on, it is generally necessary to fill the hydroceel every 3 to 4 weeks. In weeks of severe frost, this is necessary every other week. We recommend using the Hydrocele in combination with a hygrometer so that you can intervene in time if it becomes too dry.
