The Yamaha B1's Keyboard and mechanics

All keyboards used by Yamaha in their acoustic pianos are produced in-house. The B-series keyboards are made of Sitka spruce. In order to deliver optimal keyboards, the wood is dried carefully and in a natural way. This drying process sometimes takes up to 2 years. After this time, the keys are acclimatized in very hot kilns. The keys are then not coated, so that the benefit of this drying procedure is optimal. The keys can then no longer be influenced by conditions such as temperature and humidity and thus remain in absolute top condition for many years.

Yamaha uses a patented technology for drying and gluing maple wood in the B1. This type of wood is most commonly used for piano mechanisms and ensures a very accurate and durable action. The patented drying and gluing technology ensures that the mechanism can withstand continuous shocking, as well as changes in temperature and humidity. The mechanism consists of no fewer than 5500 parts, all of which are produced by Yamaha itself. One of the most unique parts is the aluminum rails that keep the deviation in the attachment point to a minimum. Yamaha was the first company to use Aluminium, which is insensitive to temperature changes.

Other models in the B-Series

The "B-series pianos" from Yamaha consists of three models, in addition to this B1 model, the 113 centimeter high Yamaha B2 and the 121 centimeter high Yamaha B3 are also available. As the series progresses, the pianos not only get higher, but also use more quality features such as a solid soundboard and extra support beams.

Silent Version

There may be times when you would like to play the acoustic piano but find yourself unable to play at specific times because of the sound. Then the Yamaha B1 Silent Piano is an option. A Silent System then allows you to play a real acoustic piano, without noise pollution. The Silent System ensures that the sounds are reproduced through your headphones.

The story of Pleyel

The story of Pleyel began in 1807 and over two centuries later, the name is inextricably linked to countless celebrities who have forged Pleyel into tradition. The legendary name comes from Ignaz Pleyel, born on 18 June 1757 in Ruppersthal, Austria, and noticed at a young age for his musical skills. Later, when he became a French citizen, his name would change to Ignance.

At the age of 50, Ignance Pleyel started his own workshop but, unfortunately, sales of the instruments faltered. Musically, Ignance fared better than business-wise until in 1824 his son Camille joined his father in the adventure of Pleyel pianos. With thorough reorganisation and innovative work, he made the company grow rapidly.

Chopin, the ambassador of prestige. The legendary composer inextricably linked himself with the Pleyel brand in 1832. The touch of the Pleyel pianos was in perfect harmony with Chopin's playing, sometimes light and refined and sometimes with measured violence. Chopin's effort was the march to worldwide success, and by 1855 the brand was producing 1,400 pianos a year.

After the death of Camille Pleyel in 1855, Pleyel came into the possession of Auguste Wolff. He further developed the company with a large new factory and unprecedented technicality that today still form the basis of the piano how we know it today, such as the cast-iron frame, among others. In 1889, Pleyel sold its 100,000th piano, an exceptional title of honour and the first piano manufacturer to achieve it. Success propelled on until 1929, when Pleyel fell into severe crisis, leading to a bankruptcy petition in 1933. Despite this filing, production continued on a very small scale until 2013. In just a few very unique instruments for a wealthy clientele.

Pleyel today

The rebirth took place in 2017 when French gentlemen Gérard Garnier and his son Benjamin resurrected the phoenix from its ashes. The brand has always remained iconic and with a new Pleyel workshop in Nantes, the first prototypes came out in 2021, which were applauded by piano enthusiasts. The construction of the pianos combines today's technologies with the traditional know-how of piano makers.

The materials used are of outstanding quality and Pleyel uses only the best available. For the soundboards, for instance, the best spruce wood is used, sourced from the Val de Fiemme in Italy and known for its exceptional vibrating properties. The strings are all sourced from Germany, with the bass strings coming from Hellerbass and the medium strings from Röslau.

The C121 develops Schimmel in various versions. The most common variant is the "Tradition" model, which also includes the slightly lower C116 and the slightly higher C126. However, this piano is the “Elegance Manhattan” version, a highly appreciated model among a wide audience. The piano is just a fraction more modern, giving the piano a contemporary chic look. QUALITY OF THE SOUNDBOARD

One of the most essential parts of a piano is the soundboard. This bottom is largely responsible for the tonal quality of the piano and therefore Schimmel attaches great importance to this part. Years of experience have contributed to an extravagant shape that makes the soundboard extraordinarily large compared to the height of the instrument. Schimmel has done this with all models in the Classic and Konzert series and results in a greater volume with superior tonal distribution. Of course, the higher the piano is, the bigger the soundboard becomes. With a height of 121cm, this Schimmel C121 is of a very average height and therefore ideal for the living room. Not only the size has an influence, the curves and thicknesses also influence the sound and these technical aspects have been worked out in detail. This results in ideal vibration characteristics over a wide spectrum of frequencies and with the characteristic palette of rich tonal colors and powerful deep bass tones, excellent tuning stability of the piano is ensured.

But not only the size of the soundboard is of influence. Another crucial point is the quality of the spruce wood used. Specific climatic conditions influence the wood quality. A tree in a higher area grows more slowly, so that it has smaller annual rings and therefore contains few disturbances in the grain. This makes the wood slightly stronger and gets a stiffer character, which has a positive effect on the sound. For this reason, Schimmel only uses exclusively selected spruce wood from the higher Bavarian forest areas.

Silent System?

Would you like this beautiful Schimmel piano with Silent System? That is possible and we offer two options for this. The first option is to order the Schimmel Twintone Silent System. This system was designed by Schimmel himself and is installed in the factory in Braunschweig. As a second option, you can choose for the Excellent AdSilent System, which is built in by our own piano technicians. We offer the silent systems in combination with a piano with extra advantageous bundle discounts.

What is a Silent System? The Silent System allows you to play your acoustic piano with headphones while remaining completely silent to your environment. When the system is switched on, a built-in rail blocks the hammers from hitting the strings, so that no sound is produced. Each key has sensors that convert the touch into a digital sound that is reproduced through the headphones. This way you can play the piano for hours at a time when it is less appreciated by your environment.

HISTORY OF SCHIMMEL

The story of Schimmel started in 1885 near Leipzig. In a modest workshop of approximately 13 square meters, Wilhelm Schimmel produced his first pianos and here the foundations were laid for a leading company that has now survived for four generations. In 1897 it was decided to move to a larger factory and developments followed each other in rapid succession. The first pianos were sold internationally and some royalties also belonged to the customer group. The first gold medals in prestigious exhibitions were won. In 1931 the step was made to the current factory in Braunschweig and that was a golden step. At the time of the division of Germany, it belonged to economically better West Germany, while the old factory was located in East Germany. The war was survived and in 1958 Schimmel was the best-selling piano worldwide. The family business is now in the hands of the fourth generation. The years of experience and accumulated expertise, combined with a modern vision, means that Schimmel still belongs to the world top. Great sounding and playing pianos are the result of this.

Smooth playing and full sound

The Kawai E-300 piano has a very pleasant playing nature, which is made possible by the “Millennium III” mechanism. Made from ABS carbon, the materials are lightweight yet incredibly sturdy and stiff, allowing the keyboard to play smoothly without losing power. It results in a strong and fast action that allows you to exercise optimal control and which will be audible down to the smallest nuances. Compared to the first model in the traditional series, the K-15, this piano has even made keys slightly longer, making the response more even and easier to play.

The sound of Kawai can be described as romantic. This piano has a height of 121 centimeters, the most common height in the piano world. The higher a piano, the longer the strings become and the fuller the sound. Is the piano just too big for you or slightly above your budget? Features of the Kawai K-300

The Kawai K-300 piano has a quite high housing with a 1.22 meter high furniture. The higher the housing, the longer the strings become and this benefits the sound. The K-300 is therefore renowned for its full, round sounds. Is the K-300 piano just above your budget or too large in terms of furniture? Then you can also look at the slightly lower K-200, which has a slightly more subtle sound.

This sound is jointly established due to the solid spruce soundboard. The soundboard is the heart of the piano and for this reason Kawai applies very high quality standards. Wood is carefully selected and must meet strict criteria such as small annual rings and whether the thread is parallel to the axis. The soundboard will be of very high quality because of this precise production. As a result, the piano is able to transform vibrations from the strings into rich and full tones.

The manner of playing of the K-300

The manner of playing of the Kawai K-300 is very pleasant. The piano is equipped with the much acclaimed “Millennium III” action. Components made of ABS-Carbon are incredibly sturdy and stiff, but at the same time very lightweight. This makes the hammer action lighter without losing power. This results in a piano with a strong and fast action that gives you optimal control as a pianist. From powerful fortissimo to finely expressive pianissimo you can play carefree on the K-300.

Versions

The K-300 is available in different versions. In addition to this beautiful polished ebony version, this K-300 can also be ordered in polished ebony with silver hardware. The piano is also available in polished white with brass hardware and polished white with silver hardware.

Manner of playing of the Kawai K-200

The manner of playing of the Kawai K-200 is very pleasant and that is due to the “Millennium III” mechanism. Made from ABS carbon, the materials are lightweight yet incredibly sturdy and stiff, allowing the keyboard to play smoothly without losing power. It results in a strong and fast mechanism that allows you to exercise optimal control and which will be audible down to the smallest nuances. Compared to a slightly cheaper model, such as the K15  Kawai has made the keys slightly longer, making the response more even and easier to play.

Sound characteristics of the K-200

The Japanese quality company Kawai attaches great importance to a full, warm sound, so that a lot of attention is paid to the soundboard. This is the heart of a piano and ensures that the vibrations of the strings are transformed into rich-sounding tones. Solid spruce that is carefully selected and meets high quality requirements is only used so that Kawai can always guarantee its high quality.

The higher the housing of a piano, the longer the strings become and this leads to a fuller sound. With a height of 1.14, this high-quality Kawai is able to produce a full and deep sound in which bass tones come out beautifully. But even the most subtle nuances are playable and audible. Partly due to the double-laid felt on the hammer heads, the creation of extraordinary tones is supported. If you are looking for a higher model upright piano, you can check out models like the K-300.

The soundboard of this Kawai K-15 is made of carefully selected solid spruce with a very even flame.

This results in a piano with a strong and fast action that you as a pianist have optimal control over. From powerful fortissimo to finely expressive pianissimo you can play carefree on the K-500. The keys are also slightly longer, which shifts the pressure point slightly, which improves playability. The Neotex keytops provide a nice touch and give you the feeling of optimal control.

Kawai K-300 WHP Aures2 Hybrid Piano

The Kawai k300 Aures 2 is the second generation of a very innovative development within the piano world, namely that of the hybrid pianos. A hybrid piano is basically an acoustic piano that is equipped with advanced digital capabilities. In this case, the base is the normal Kawai K-300 piano, a 122 cm high piano in chic ebony polished finish. With this piano you get an instrument that has already been chosen best piano of the year four times and is characterized by its warm romantic sound and pleasant manner of playing. And then you can build even further on all digital possibilities!

Including Piano Luxury Package

This Kawai K-300 Aures2 comes with the free Luxury Piano Package worth €325,- consisting of:

  • Tuning before and after delivery
  • 10 year warranty
  • Free delivery based on ground floor
  • Kawai SH-9 Headphones

THE KAWAI K-300, BASICALLY PURELY ACOUSTIC

Good to know that, basically, the K-300 Aures is completely identical to the normal K-300. When the digital part is turned off, it is really an acoustic piano with all the acoustic parts such as a soundboard, hammers and a real piano keyboard. This piano must therefore be regularly tuned by a piano tuner to stay in tune.

With its high housing, the piano has a full, warm, romantic sound that is widely appreciated. Materials for important parts such as the solid spruce for the soundboard are carefully selected with very high quality requirements being applied. These criteria result in the high sound quality that Kawai delivers. The smooth manner of playing of this piano is due to the much acclaimed “Millennium III” action. The use of ABS Carbon, a light material instead of wood, has a positive effect on the mechanics and realizes three important elements for pianists; speed, control and power.

Digital possibilities with the K-300 Aures

The unique thing about a hybrid piano is that the piano can also be played digitally or that the acoustic sound can be combined with the digital sound. If your environment does not appreciate the acoustic playing for a while, you can mute the sound by pressing the center pedal to the left. Now the hammers are prevented from hitting the strings, but the movement of the hammers is registered by sensors. These recognize every movement, both when playing fast passages where the same keys are played several times in succession, as well as during quiet parts with keys played slowly.

The basis for the digital sound is the Kawai SK-EX concert grand piano, which has been carefully sampled with multiple tracks and then combined with the latest resonance modeling technology and newly developed resonance algorithms. The complex technology leads to a natural and expressive sound across the entire sound spectrum. What is unique is that the sound reproduction is created by transducers that are incorporated in the soundboard. These speakers create vibrations in the soundboard so that the digital sound resonates naturally and thus sounds even more natural and spacious.

In addition to the SK-EX grand piano sound, the K-300 Aures is also equipped with many other samples from the Kawai sound library. You will also find sounds from other grand pianos and pianos, but also electric pianos, Hammond or church organs, strings or choral sounds. You can of course play these digital sounds digitally via the speakers or headphones while the acoustic sound is suppressed. It is also possible to combine the acoustic sound of the K-300 with, for example, strings from the digital section. A unique combination and experience!

Controls, Bluetooth and USB

To the left of the keyboard on the piano is a large touchscreen display. From this panel you can easily control the electronic part of the piano. Setting the desired sound, but also, for example, setting a split or a dual, setting a metronome, transposing the piano or changing the tuning. You will also find a recording functionality in the panel.

To the left below the keyboard is a box with various connections. This allows you to connect two headphones simultaneously. It is also possible to connect the piano via Bluetooth with your smartphone or tablet. For example, you can play music over the piano's sound system or use music-related apps. Via the USB connection it is possible to connect the piano to the computer and thus exchange MIDI data. A USB stick can also be plugged in to play songs directly on the instrument or save your own performance in MP3 or WAV format.

Except for the main photo, the remaining product photos are of the black model as those of the white version are not available. This Piano is therefore the white model!

Distinctive in price

The Kawai E-200 is comparable in quality to the K-200 model from the traditional Kawai piano series. The mechanics and specifications are identical so you don't deliver in terms of playing feel and sound! The matte finish makes this piano more affordable in price and unique.

The E-200 therefore also has the "Millennium III" mechanism. Made from ABS carbon, the materials are lightweight yet incredibly sturdy and stiff, allowing the keyboard to play smoothly without losing power. It results in a strong and fast mechanism that allows you to exercise optimal control and which will be audible down to the smallest nuances. Compared to the first model in the traditional series, the K-15  this piano has even made keys slightly longer, making the response more even and easier to play.

Schimmel K122 Elegance

The Schimmel K122 Elegance is one of the most high-quality series from the renowned German piano builder. Models from this Konzert series are of superior quality due to various ingenious construction techniques. These lead to greater richness of sound and better playability. When you play a Schimmel Konzert piano you are guaranteed to be convinced by its quality. It is therefore not for nothing that the esteemed French magazine 'Le Monde de la Musique' describes it as:

'The excellent action, combined with its well-tuned and not too heavy aftertouch, provides a playing feel and response that you rarely encounter. The most striking aspect of this piano is without a doubt the good tonal balance and enormous dynamics, which makes the piano an incomparable instrument compared to its competitors. It is almost unimaginable that so much quality can be concentrated in 1 instrument!

Unique features of the Konzert Series
The models of the Classic series, completely produced in Germany, already belong to the higher segment of pianos. But with the Konzert series, Schimmel manages to surpass himself. Small details and adjustments lead to refinements in sound and playability. For example, the “triplex scale” increases the richness of sound and speech length. This is accomplished by using three precisely coordinated regions within a single string. A dynamic bar divides the soundboard into sound zones for more sound dynamics, more tonal colors and longer sustain. The resonance and tonal dynamics are also highlighted through the bridge that has been made lighter by means of a special groove, which makes the soundboard more flexible. Playability is also optimal as slippery keys are avoided due to a refinement of the top material that is similar to ivory.

QUALITY OF THE SOUNDBOARD

One of the most essential parts of a piano is the soundboard. This board is largely responsible for the tonal quality of the piano and therefore Schimmel attaches great importance to this part. With a height of 122 cm, this Schimmel K122 is of very average height and therefore ideal for the living room.

Another crucial point is the quality of the spruce wood that has been used.

What is a Silent System? The Silent System allows you to play your acoustic piano with headphones while remaining completely silent to your environment.
The many years of experience and accumulated expertise, combined with a modern vision, means that Schimmel still belongs to the world top. Great sounding and playing pianos are the result of this.

THE QUALITY OF A YAMAHA B2

With a Yamaha B2 piano, you are purchasing a Japanese quality piano. Although the assembly is outsourced to the factories in Indonesia, this certainly does not affect the quality. The know-how about acoustic pianos combined with their many years of experience makes Yamaha a very stable player in the piano world that is praised for its pleasantly clear sounds. This is partly achieved by the high-quality components made from the best materials. For example, all keyboards are internally produced from sitka sprucewood. This wood is dried for six to 24 months and then further acclimatized in computer-controlled kilns. This treatment ensures that the keys are hardly affected by changes in temperature and humidity. The piano action also withstands these conditions due to again specifically developed technologies related to the drying and gluing of maple. The use of aluminum parts also makes the mechanism very stable. In total, the mechanism consists of 5500 parts, each of which is developed by Yamaha itself. These mechanisms are developed with incredible accuracy. The precision of holes drilled in the protective casing is even done with an accuracy of 0.05 millimeters. It is therefore not surprising that a Yamaha B2 plays so smoothly!

An important element of the B2 piano is that, like the B3, it has a soundboard made of solid spruce. This spruce comes from North America where the temperatures and altitude are ideal for growing high quality spruce. Once the wood has been grown, it is transported to the Yamaha factory in Kitami, Japan. This factory, specialized in woodworking processes, then manufactures the high-quality soundboards.

More information about the B Series

The Yamaha B2 is the middle model of three pianos. With a height of 113 cm, this piano has a solid sound box that ensures a warm, powerful sound. The higher the body of a piano, the longer the strings become and the larger the soundboard becomes. This has a positive effect on the sound, but must be tuned to the room in which the piano will be placed. In smaller living rooms, a B2 model is the perfect piano if the budget also plays an important role. If you are looking for a piano that is just a fraction more affordable, then you will come across the Benjamin of the series; the Yamaha B1. With a height of 109 centimeters and completely based on all Yamaha principles, it is also an excellent piano. The Yamaha B3 is the most full-fledged model in the series with a height of 121 centimeters. This height is the average for a piano and perfect for placement in medium to larger living rooms. Every Yamaha B piano has its charms, but one thing is certain: Whichever model you choose, you will be amazed at the quality and performance of these pianos. They will guarantee many years of playing pleasure.

Silent System version

This piano does not have a silent system, but is available in a version with a silent system. This system makes it possible to play silently for your environment by means of headphones.
