THE KAWAI K-300, BASICALLY PURELY ACOUSTIC
Good to know that, basically, the K-300 Aures is completely identical to the normal K-300. When the digital part is turned off, it is really an acoustic piano with all the acoustic parts such as a soundboard, hammers and a real piano keyboard. This piano must therefore be regularly tuned by a piano tuner to stay in tune.
With its high housing, the piano has a full, warm, romantic sound that is widely appreciated. Materials for important parts such as the solid spruce for the soundboard are carefully selected with very high quality requirements being applied. These criteria result in the high sound quality that Kawai delivers. The smooth manner of playing of this piano is due to the much acclaimed “Millennium III” action. The use of ABS Carbon, a light material instead of wood, has a positive effect on the mechanics and realizes three important elements for pianists; speed, control and power.
Digital possibilities with the K-300 Aures
The unique thing about a hybrid piano is that the piano can also be played digitally or that the acoustic sound can be combined with the digital sound. If your environment does not appreciate the acoustic playing for a while, you can mute the sound by pressing the center pedal to the left. Now the hammers are prevented from hitting the strings, but the movement of the hammers is registered by sensors. These recognize every movement, both when playing fast passages where the same keys are played several times in succession, as well as during quiet parts with keys played slowly.
The basis for the digital sound is the Kawai SK-EX concert grand piano, which has been carefully sampled with multiple tracks and then combined with the latest resonance modeling technology and newly developed resonance algorithms. The complex technology leads to a natural and expressive sound across the entire sound spectrum. What is unique is that the sound reproduction is created by transducers that are incorporated in the soundboard. These speakers create vibrations in the soundboard so that the digital sound resonates naturally and thus sounds even more natural and spacious.
In addition to the SK-EX grand piano sound, the K-300 Aures is also equipped with many other samples from the Kawai sound library. You will also find sounds from other grand pianos and pianos, but also electric pianos, Hammond or church organs, strings or choral sounds. You can of course play these digital sounds digitally via the speakers or headphones while the acoustic sound is suppressed. It is also possible to combine the acoustic sound of the K-300 with, for example, strings from the digital section. A unique combination and experience!
Controls, Bluetooth and USB
To the left of the keyboard on the piano is a large touchscreen display. From this panel you can easily control the electronic part of the piano. Setting the desired sound, but also, for example, setting a split or a dual, setting a metronome, transposing the piano or changing the tuning. You will also find a recording functionality in the panel.
To the left below the keyboard is a box with various connections. This allows you to connect two headphones simultaneously. It is also possible to connect the piano via Bluetooth with your smartphone or tablet. For example, you can play music over the piano's sound system or use music-related apps. Via the USB connection it is possible to connect the piano to the computer and thus exchange MIDI data. A USB stick can also be plugged in to play songs directly on the instrument or save your own performance in MP3 or WAV format.
This piano comes with free Kawai SH-9 Headphones.
