QUALITY OF THE SONGBOARD

One of the most essential parts of a piano is the soundboard. This board is largely responsible for the tonal quality of the piano and therefore Schimmel attaches great importance to this part. Years of experience have contributed to an extravagant shape that makes the soundboard extraordinarily large compared to the height of the instrument. Schimmel has done this with all models in the Classic and Konzert series and results in a greater volume with superior tonal distribution. Of course, the higher the piano is, the bigger the soundboard becomes. With a height of 122 cm, this Schimmel C121 is of very average height and therefore ideal for the living room. Not only the size has an influence, the curves and thicknesses also influence the sound and these technical aspects have been worked out in detail. This results in ideal vibration characteristics over a wide spectrum of frequencies and with the characteristic palette of rich tonal colors and powerful deep bass tones, excellent tuning stability of the piano is ensured.

But not only the size of the soundboard is of influence. Another crucial point is the quality of the spruce wood that has been used. Specific climatic conditions influence the wood quality. A tree in a higher area grows more slowly, so that it has smaller annual rings and therefore contains few disturbances in the grain. This makes the wood slightly stronger and gets a stiffer character, which has a positive effect on the sound. For this reason, Schimmel only uses exclusively selected spruce wood from the higher Bavarian forest areas.

Silent System?

Would you like this beautiful Schimmel piano with Silent System? That is possible and we offer two options for this. The first option is to order the Schimmel twintone silent system. This system was designed by Schimmel himself and is installed in the factory in Braunschweig. As a second option, you can opt for the Excellent AdSilent System, which is built in by our own piano technicians. We offer the silent systems in combination with a piano with extra advantageous bundle discounts.

What is a Silent System? The Silent System allows you to play your acoustic piano with headphones while remaining completely silent to your environment. When the system is switched on, a built-in rail blocks the hammers from hitting the strings, so that no sound is produced. Each key has sensors that convert the touch into a digital sound that is reproduced through the headphones. This way you can play the piano for hours at times when it is less appreciated by your environment.

History of Schimmel

The story of Schimmel started in 1885 near Leipzig. In a modest workshop of approximately 13 square meters, Wilhelm Schimmel produced his first pianos and here the foundations were laid for a leading company that has now survived for four generations. In 1897 it was decided to move to a larger factory and developments followed each other in rapid succession. The first pianos were sold internationally and some royalties also belonged to the customer group. The first gold medals in prestigious exhibitions were won. In 1931 the step was made to the current factory in Braunschweig and that was a golden step. At the time of the division of Germany, it belonged to economically better West Germany, while the old factory was located in East Germany. The war was survived and in 1958 Schimmel was the best-selling piano worldwide. The family business is now in the hands of the fourth generation. The many years of experience and accumulated expertise, combined with a modern vision, means that Schimmel still belongs to the world top. Great sounding and playing pianos are the result of this.

Quality and craftsmanship

With more than 130 years of experience building pianos, Schimmel is known for its uncompromising quality and attention to detail. The C169 Tradition Grand piano is no exception - every component has been carefully selected and crafted to achieve the highest standards.

Enchanting sound

The heart of this grand piano is its powerful and clear sound. Thanks to its balanced design and built-in resonance bottom, you can enjoy a rich and full sound that is both warm and expressive. Of great influence on the sound is the soundboard. For this, Schimmel uses carefully selected mountain spruce from the Bavarian and Bohemian forests, the cradle of sound wood for German instrument makers. Only the very best wood, slowly grown at high altitude, is chosen so that the soundboard can be composed with optimal resonance properties. The trees are pre-selected in the forests and then cut to size and dried over a long period of time. Despite this intensive pre-selection, only about 2% of the wood obtained in this way turns out to be suitable for our soundboard production.

The manufacture of the soundboard is a complex and time-consuming process, in which various factors have a great influence on the final result. Some of these factors include the thickness of the soundboard at various points, the wood moisture content of the composite parts and the tension present on the soundboard when it is attached to the stringed back. The elaborate process ensures a richness of sound in all dynamic ranges, an even development of sound in all registers and a long sustain. Depending on the desired sound character, our soundboards are produced in different ways. Soundboards with a membrane-like finish are particularly difficult to manufacture, but at the same time provide excellent vibration characteristics. Through this meticulous process, Schimmel creates instruments with a unique sound experience that meet the highest quality standards and provide playing experience for musicians worldwide.

Playability and comfort

The Schimmel C169 Tradition Grand piano features a responsive and precise keyboard, making every note you play come to life effortlessly. In addition, its ergonomic design provides ultimate playing comfort, so you can keep playing for hours without getting tired. "Minereal key tops" are used for the white keys on all Schimmel instruments. Developed by Schimmel, these unique keys offer pianists a more sensitive touch. The core of the keys is made of high quality tonewood and designed to amplify frequencies that are difficult for the soundboard to produce. This increases the richness of sound and creates a more balanced sound. In addition, the pianist experiences the notes played through the transmission of vibrations to the keyboard, resulting in better control over piano playing. These innovative features create an enhanced interplay between the pianist and the instrument. As a result, Schimmel pianos offer an unparalleled playing experience and musical expression possibilities for both professional and amateur pianists.

Elegant design

This grand piano is not only a musical masterpiece, but also a beautiful work of art for your interior. Its graceful design and high-quality finish make the Schimmel C169 Tradition Grand Piano an eye-catcher that exudes timeless elegance.
