Yamaha APX700III - Jumbo

Yamaha APX700III

Take the stage by storm

As an electric guitarist in the 1980s, if you wanted to play acoustic on stage there were few options for you that really worked. In 1987, Yamaha made the first acoustic guitar that could be taken from a guitar rack, plugged in and played at volume, problem free; no more howling feedback, misplaced mics or the dreaded extended sound check….

The APX series didn’t just focus on sound - every element was tweaked to be an easy switch for an electric player on-stage, from the stylish finishes to the cutaway body and the slim, electric-guitar style neck.

In any electro-acoustic, the combination of the guitar’s acoustic sound and its pickup is the heart of the sound. The latest APX600 features SRT Piezo Pickup – the same pickup as featured in the highly acclaimed A Series range and boasting incredible dynamic range, natural tone and the feedback rejection and mix-friendly sound that guitarists need and want. Yamaha’s legendary active preamp is still a big feature of APX, and being built by Yamaha’s audio-visual division, the sound quality is everything you’d expect from the world’s number one.

Styles have changed a little since 1987, but the essence of APX is the same as ever. Today’s APX guitars boast a more natural look, 5mm deeper body for better bass response and greater volume and, under the hood, a new non-scalloped bracing pattern for a responsive, dynamic tone.

The 700 series feature Yamaha’s unique ART pickup system. Designed to capture the guitar’s full body resonance, ART’s ability to faithfully recreate natural tone and body dynamics means that the every nuance of your playing is faithfully reproduced.

  • Thin Body and Cutaway For Excellent Playability
  • Solid Spruce Top
  • ART Pickup for Natural Dynamic Response

Yamaha SLG200S - Tobacco Brown

Yamaha

The SLG200S is a modern silent guitar from Yamaha. Yamaha is a Japanese company founded in 1887 by Torakusu Yamaha. He started developing organs and pianos, the first in Japan. He prioritized innovation and quality, and this is still evident in Yamaha's current products. The silent guitar is therefore silent, ideal for guitarists who do not want to create a nuisance or who like to play undisturbed. But how does this work? The guitar has no sound box or body, so there is no resonance. As a result, minimal noise is released. It's not completely silent, the attack of the strings will always produce a slight tone, but it's as minimal as it gets. The guitarist can hear the sound by connecting headphones to the guitar. This way you can practice in peace. But if you do want to play very audibly or want to play together, you can also connect the guitar to an amplifier.

Silent Guitar

What then creates the sound? There is a piezo element under the bridge. This pickup is almost always used on semi-acoustic guitars. It captures the resonance and vibrations as authentically as possible. This system is aided by the SRT system which is hidden behind it. This system adds certain sound aspects to the sound, making it sound as authentic and acoustic as possible. This is necessary because without a sound box, there is no resonance and therefore no acoustic sound. Just because the SRT system has to do this artificially doesn't mean it sounds artificial. The system is so sophisticated that it knows exactly how to recreate the resonance, sustain, atmosphere and natural distortion of an acoustic guitar. Moreover, all these aspects can also be adjusted with the buttons on the side.

Materials

The SLG200S is based on a western guitar, but has a narrow neck like an electric guitar for more comfortable playing. Moreover, Yamaha has used the best materials for this. The frame is made of maple and the base plate is made of mahogany. This combination is heavy enough that it balances the neck well but light enough that the silent guitar is as weightless as it appears. The neck is also made of mahogany, which makes the guitar look nice and complete. The guitar has a rosewood fretboard Rosewood is one of the most popular woods for fretboards as it adds some warmth to the sound and feels nice when playing. In addition, the guitar comes with a built-in tuner, headphone jack and a smartphone jack. The guitar comes with a bag. In short, the SLG200S is a beautiful and innovative silent guitar for a great price!

Yamaha FG-TA - Brown Sunburst

Yamaha

Yamaha was founded in 1887 by Torakusu Yamaha in Japan when he made his first acoustic organ. Yamaha was very passionate and soon started making pianos and grand pianos. He was the first in Japan to make pianos. In its development process, this progression and innovation was always present. Through the past century and a half, the company has expanded enormously towards all kinds of instruments. Their first acoustic guitar hit the market in the 1960s, and they have been constantly improving and innovating instruments ever since. The innovation that Torakusu Yamaha contained is still visible in Yamaha's instruments today.

TransAcoustic

The FG-TA is a TransAcoustic guitar, as Yamaha calls it. This means that the acoustic sound of the guitar can be altered. This doesn’t mean the guitar can’t be amplified, it simply means the sound can be altered without amplification. This system that was designed by Yamaha consists of an actuator at the bottom of the inside of the back. This actuator catches the vibrations of the strings, these vibrations will be altered and sent to the top of the body. The natural wood will catch the altered vibrations and produce the sound. This way you can change the acoustic sound of the guitar. There are of course limits to this system: the guitar cannot add distortion or overdrive, but only more natural effects, like reverb and chorus. These are the most wanted effects for western guitars anyway. At the side of the guitar there are three subtle knobs with which to change the effects: a chorus knob, a reverb knob, and a volume knob for when the guitar is amplified. The effects also work when the guitar is amplified. Because the system also works without an amplifier, it relies on batteries. These are located right next to the output so it’s easy to change and the location doesn’t alter the natural resonance.

Materials

The FG-TA is a Dreadnought guitar. This is the most popular acoustic guitar shape as it’s ideal for rhythm guitar. The large bottom produces a deep resonance which will result in a full and loud sound. The guitar has a solid spruce top. Spruce is a sustainable tonewood which produces a warm sound, which is great for rhythm guitar. The back and sides are made of mahogany which will balance the sound properly and complements the spruce beautifully. The guitar has a nato neck and a rosewood fretboard. Rosewood is a sturdy tonewood with an equal surface. This will result in a comfortable playing experience. In short, the FG-TA can be used as a great traditional western guitar but can also be used with an innovative system with reverb and chorus!

Yamaha F310II - Dreadnought

The Yamaha F310II offers a beautiful sound for an awesome price. Do you want to start learning to play the western guitar, but don’t have a high budget? The F310II might be the solution for you! This guitar is also the improved version of the Yamaha F310, but is still very affordable. Yamaha has been known to make beautiful guitars for both beginners and professionals for decades. This experience and skill is clearly presented with the F310II. The guitar has got a spruce top and nato back and sides. This combination results in a warm and balanced sound that exceeds most other starter guitars. Furthermore, the guitar has got a rosewood fretboard. This is amazing, because rosewood is considered to be one of the best tonewoods for fretboards. Rosewood is relatively expensive though, and isn’t often found on more affordable guitars. This makes the F310II quite special.
