New from Taylor: the Legacy Collection
Overlapping Style with Popular 800 Series
This collection features three rosewood and spruce 800 series guitars, which maintain the classic dreadnought and jumbo body styles. Historically, these styles have contributed to earlier popular models, including the Dreadnought 810e, 6-string Jumbo 815e, and 12-string Jumbo 855e. These guitars aren’t directly copied from the original, but they do reflect its fundamental qualities.
In honour of Bob Taylor
The body and headstock are an older shape originally designed by Bob Taylor. The headstock is an early "straight ear" shape with rosewood veneer. The X-bracing pattern was also used on the earlier Dreadnoughts and Jumbos. The design is reminiscent of earlier 800 series models, with ebony bridge pins.
Old and new combined
The result is a collection with the look, feel and sound of the past, with a few subtle refinements based on modern knowledge and experience. Some details are the shape of the body and headstock, X-bracing, patented Taylor neck, bridge and aesthetics. The neck, previously known as NT neck, has already been one of the biggest design breakthroughs, and is again a promising feature.
The Legacy 514ce & 714ce feature a Grand Auditorium cutaway. The 514ce features mahogany and cedar, while the 714ce features rosewood and cedar. This honours the iconic Grand Auditorium body style, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
