Roland VAD-504 V-Drums Acoustic Design  

The Roland VAD-504 is the second generation of the Roland VAD concept. VAD stands for V-Drum Acoustic Design - in short, the playing capabilities of an electronic drum kit with the look of an acoustic kit. Although its predecessor, the VAD-503, was an unprecedented success, Roland decided it was time for an update. The TD-27 module that comes with this drum kit has had an update that makes it of a much higher level. The crash cymbal has also become a lot thinner, increasing the playing experience, and the hardware has become of better quality. This new kit therefore offers some considerable advantages for the future!

THE VAD SERIES

Roland is originally a Japanese brand that has been developing drum kits for decades. As a result, they are one of the best in the market when it comes to drum kits, mainly digital drum kits. As such, they have released many digital drum kits, but there was always one disadvantage to these models, and that was the appearance. The look of their previous models was very modern, with reasonably small pads. This is perfect for some people, but many prefer the look of an acoustic model. So Roland released their VAD series. These drum kits are digital drum kits with the look of an acoustic drum kit. Although there are also differences between the different VAD drum kits, for example, the VAD306 is a touch more modern and simple than the VAD506, which again looks more authentic. So within the VAD series, there is plenty of choice.

THE VAD504

So too is the VAD504. The drums' shells are made of wood, the hardware of chrome and the skins of their typical mesh. The stands are double-reinforced to prevent damage. Roland has ensured that the skins have a great response, so they catch everything. In addition, the drums have a dual-zone pad for independent sheet and edge triggering. In addition, the drums have high-quality sensor technology, making the attack sound just like an acoustic kit.

The pads are connected to the module via USB cables. The double-layer mesh heads with adjustable tension provide an authentic playing feel, making it feel not like you are playing on a digital kit, but rather an acoustic kit. So this drum kit mimics the look, playing experience and sound of an acoustic kit. However, it also gives you the advantages of a digital drum kit. The kit is easier to transport, it is more versatile, the sound is easier to record, the volume is adjustable (headphones also possible) and it is more compact than an acoustic kit. Moreover, it is very easy to make adjustments and use separate functions with the TD-27 drum module.

You can also download/play and save your own samples. The drum kit has a built-in Bluetooth connection, so it is possible to connect a phone or laptop. It is also possible to purchase separate pads/drums and connect them to the module, to expand your kit. This module is also available in other kits, such as the TD-27KV2, if you prefer a more modern look. In short, a perfect balance between acoustic and digital drum kits!
