The Roland VAD-507 is the second generation of the Roland VAD concept. VAD stands for V-Drum Acoustic Design - in short, the playing capabilities of an electronic drum kit with the look of an acoustic kit. Although its predecessor, the VAD-506, was an unprecedented success, Roland decided it was time for an update. The TD-27 module that comes with this drum kit has had an update that makes it of a much higher level. Also, the crash cymbal has become a lot thinner, increasing the playing experience, and the hardware has become of better quality. This new kit offers some great advantages for the future!
DIGITAL DRUM KIT IN AN ACOUSTIC JACKET
Roland has been the market leader in digital drum kits for decades, and for good reason. Their technology and ease of use makes it one of the best choices for beginners and professionals alike. Despite the convenience of a digital drum kit, its appearance has long been criticised. As a result, Roland has created the new VAD series. The biggest difference compared to their original TD series is, of course, the appearance. The 14‘ stainless steel snare, the 14’ floor tom, the 20‘ kick plus the 10’ and 12’ rack toms all look very realistic. In addition, they also play very realistically thanks to the special Roland Mesh heads that can be adjusted in detail to suit your playing style.
This kit can be compared to other VAD drum kits, such as the VAD504 and the VAD307. All these kits are incredibly good, but there are small differences between them. For instance, the VAD307 has a different module from the VAD507 and VAD504. Between the VAD507 and the VAD504, the differences are mainly in the amount of drums and cymbals. The VAD507 is more comprehensive. So there is plenty of choice within the VAD series.
THE VAD507
The drums of the VAD507 are made of wooden shells, chrome hardware and the skins are made of double-layer mesh. The chrome stands are also double-reinforced. The drums also feature high-quality sensor technology, ensuring that every attack is perfectly captured, regardless of how hard it is struck and where it is struck. This, in turn, is enhanced by the dual-zone pads, giving the pads independent sheet and rim triggers.
So the looks and playing experience are fine, but what about the drum module? The brand new TD-27 drum machine has exactly the same sounds as the hugely popular TD-50 drum computer. This means you can use the best drum samples Roland has ever made on the VAD507, as well as on the VAD504. The drum module has many built-in functions. You can combine your favourite drum samples and create your own kits. You can even download your own samples, and stack them as an extra layer on top of the internal sounds to personalise your sound even more. In addition, the module has a built-in Bluetooth connection, making it easy to connect to a laptop or phone. This way, streaming, recording and playing along becomes very simple. This makes the VAD507 ideal for the stage and studio.
In short: all the benefits of an acoustic kit are combined with all the advantages of a digital kit. So you have the look and sound of an acoustic kit, but the versatility, recordability, transportability and adaptability of a digital kit. So a great choice!
